Simple Cottage Pie


Simple Cottage Pie An easy filling dinner that will feed up to 6 people.

You will need: 500g beef mince, 1 large onion, 1 leek, 2 garlic cloves, 1kg potatoes, 1 bunch carrots, spring greens, a splash of milk, butter, oil, beef stock cube, sea salt and black pepper

All the main ingredients you need to make this dish are available to order from us.

It will take: about 45 minutes

Preheat the oven to 190C. Put a large pan of salted water on to boil. Peel and dice your potatoes and put in the boiling water for about 20 minutes until the potatoes are tender.

Slice up the onion, garlic, leek and carrots.  Heat a splash of oil in a large pan; add the vegetables and fry until the onion is softened then set aside.  Add the beef mince to the pan and cook for about 8 minutes until browned.  Put back in the vegetables and stir together. Crumble over the beef stock cube and add a mug of hot water, stir well and simmer for 10 minutes.

Mash the potatoes with a knob of butter, splash of milk and some seasoning. Put the mince in to an ovenproof dish and top with the mash potato.  Rough up the top with a fork. Put in the oven for 25 minutes until golden and crispy on top.

Slice up and team the spring greens for a few minutes until tender, then season and add a little butter to serve.
