Fish & chips with carrots and broccoli Make a simple batter with self raising flour, a pinch of salt, and some water. Dust the fish (remove skin first if you wish) with flour, coat in beaten egg, and dip in the batter making sure the fish is covered. Fry the fish in hot oil (a frying pan with a decent amount of oil in it works well).

For the chips peel and slice your potatoes. Get a pan of oil hot so that it bubbles when you put the chips in.  Cook till golden.

Boil or steam the veg and serve with a knob of butter.
